This is not only one of my favorite secrets to let you in on, but it has also been (and continues to be) an area I love to research.  When I first discovered the magic of milk I didn’t really think it was going to prove what I wanted.  First I’ve got to tell you a little secret…I’m sponsored by a recovery product!  Could you imagine if they realized I had found the secret to success for a fraction of the price they are selling it to you for?  And to top it all off, I’m going to share it with the general public!  That’s right; sometimes it just feels good to help your fellow active adventurers.  I do still use the engineered protein supplement at times because it works just as well and I love the flavor, but if you had to pay for it, well, I think I would go with $3.19 a gallon every time.

Before we break down the cost savings, let’s look at the ingredients and understand why you will benefit from drinking chocolate milk after every workout.

Disclaimer:  Notice what I just said, AFTER EVERY WORKOUT.  Just so you uber-inactive individuals don’t come back at me with the fury, I’m reminding you that if you drink chocolate milk daily and don’t work out…get ready to get fat!

Ingredients

Let’s compare the ingredients of three different recovery options for you.  Two of these options are designated as “recovery” products and, therefore, are accompanied by the inexplicable giant-sized price tags.  The other is chocolate milk.  The most important thing to look at in this comparison is protein.  Second is the amount of carbohydrates, and third is fat content.  Finally, we’ll sneak a peek at the bonus factor…

Option #1 – Powdered mix ($2.89/serving)

  • Protein 7g (14%DV)
  • Total Carb 25g (8% DV)
  • Total Fat 0g (0% DV)
  • Bonus factor…Sodium, Vitamin C, Calcium, Potassium
  • Calories per Serving 128

-Fat Cal. 0

Option #2 – Recovery Bar ($1.89/serving)

  • Protein 12g (24%DV)
  • Total Carb 30g (10% DV)
  • Total Fat 10g (15% DV)
  • Bonus factor…Sodium, Calcium, Potassium, Iron
  • Calories per Serving 260

-Fat Cal. 90

Option #3 – Chocolate Milk ($0.20/serving)

  • Protein 8g (16%DV)
  • Total Carb 28g (9% DV)
  • Total Fat 2.5g (4% DV)
  • Bonus factor…Sodium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Calcium, Potassium
  • Calories per Serving 170

-Fat Cal. 25

The claim is that engineered powders have a scientifically proven protein/carb ratio to provide optimal recovery.  Well check the ratio and you’ll find chocolate milk is almost identical!  In addition, the powder targets one specific challenge, while chocolate milk has those essential vitamins and minerals we all require daily to provide more than one single benefit.  And while the “recovery” bar does possess a similar ratio, it reads more like a candy bar with that insane fat content.

Cost benefits

I don’t really need to write much here because I have provided you with the price per serving above.  But it is astonishing that we can be so easily persuaded to spend our hard earned money without doing the research.  Well, TTH is doing that research for you!  If you want to recover from your daily workout efficiently, then consider the following:

-Your cost per year for Powdered Mix:  $1054.85
